INGREDIENTS

1 of a cup of milk

4 eggs

4 slices of Swiss or Cheddar cheese(traditionally Swiss, but some people like Cheddar better)

8 slices of bread

8 thin slices of cooked ham

3 tablespoons of butter

Powdered sugar

Raspberry Jelly (strawberry or grapeworks fine as well)

PROCEDURES

Put two slices of ham, and one slice of cheese between two pieces of bread. This will make four sandwiches in all.

2

Whisk four eggs and one third cup milk in a small bowl.

3

Dip sandwiches in the egg and milk mixture.

4

Melt butter on the large skillet or griddle.

5

Place sandwiches on griddle when the butter is bubbling.

6

Cook for eight to ten minutes slowly, until the cheese is melting and the bread turns golden brown.

  • Allow the Monte Cristo sandwiches to cool.

8

Cut diagonally and put on plate.

9

Sprinkle a dusting of powdered sugar on top.

10

Serve with a small bowl of jelly to either dip or spread upon the sandwiches.
